THE LABOUR LANDSCAPE

National Survey Targets Engineers, Technicians and Technologists

Would you like to help two national groups study the engineering and technology labour market in Canada? If so, link from this e-PEGG to a new survey. You’ll be part of a study generating new information for APEGGA and other groups across Canada, as they create and refine their policies and programs.

The 2008 National Survey of Engineers and Engineering Technicians and Technologists will lead to a better understanding of trends in professional development, association and society membership, employment and more. A project of Engineers Canada and the Canadian Council of Technicians and Technologists, the study promises that your confidentiality is “absolutely assured.”

We Will Rock You

Rock Solid Professionalism is the theme of APEGGA’s 2008 Annual Conference in Edmonton, which ties in perfectly with International Year of Planet Earth and the approaching term at of President-Elect Gordon Williams, P.Geol. The conference and Annual General Meeting take place April 17-19, and we’ve got the information to help you make your conference plans.

Calling All Visual Artists

It’s become a staple of the Annual Conference – the APEGGA Art Show. Set for April 17, just before the 2008 Summit Awards Gala in Edmonton, the seventh annual show seeks paintings, sculptures and photographs from members and their families.

Mentors Wanted

Would you like to give back to your profession in a direct, fulfilling way? The APEGGA Mentoring Program could be for you. It allows you to share your knowledge, reach pools of new talent, enhance your coaching skills and earn Continuing Professional Development credits.

We have a particular need for mentors in the Edmonton and Calgary areas.

Making a World of Difference

“Too often, we appear to be the invisible professions because the work we do is often behind the scenes.” So says APEGGA President John McLeod, P.Eng.
If you want to help APEGGA and others bring the professions to the forefront, please note that National Engineering and Geoscience Week is officially underway on Thursday, Feb. 21 – that’s today. If you missed the kick-off events in Calgary and Edmonton, don’t worry. There’s plenty of opportunity to get involved.

Check out the NEGW supplements in today’s Calgary Herald and Edmonton Journal.
