Average Salary Tops $100,000

The annual Value of Professional Services, the most visited document on the APEGGA website, brings news of an eight per cent increase in salaries. A survey of 126 employers found that the average base salary for members, including students, is $105,264. For the first time, the survey looked at regional variations. Where do you fit on the salary spectrum?

Ride the Mentoring Boom

The APEGGA Mentoring Program is gathering momentum in time for the second annual National Mentoring Conference in Calgary, Oct. 25 and 26. Council has approved a new mentoring Summit Award, staff members are working on new and proven mentoring initiatives, and registration is underway for the conference, under the banner Celebrating Mentors.

Rock Solid Fun

Our annual and Rock & Fossil Clinics – always a big hit with the whole family – are Saturday, Oct. 20, in Edmonton and Canmore. Geoscientists will identify materials collected by the public. Each Rock & Fossil Clinic also includes a hands-on geoscience workshop for children and a guest speaker.

Did you know diamonds are derived from volcanoes? Roy Eccles, P.Geol., with Alberta Geological Survey, will show and tell all about volcanoes in his presentation at the Edmonton clinic.

Do Hector Lake, Mount Hector and Kicking Horse Pass ring a bell? Ernie Lakusta, author of The Intrepid Explorer: James Hector’s Explorations in the Canadian Rockies, will be at the Canmore Geoscience Centre to share exciting stories and photos about the Palliser Expedition.

Note: In Edmonton, attendees must purchase general admissions at the TELUS World of Science – Edmonton to participate in the hands-on workshop and hear the guest speaker.
