6 Credited Professional Development Hours (PDH) for PD Event
The Central Alberta APEGGA Branch has received tremendous support from members for this event in the past 13 years. The 14th Annual Central Alberta PD will continue to provide a venue for APEGGA Members in the Central Alberta area to network and to fulfill some the PD hours without having to travel to Calgary or Edmonton.
The Central Alberta Branch is excited to bring you Mr. Todd Hirsch and Mr. David Colley, Bsc for this informative evening and they will be speaking to you on the following topics:
State of the Alberta Economy in 2011: A Lot of Moving Parts
The global economy is currently beset with a range of economic question marks: disasters in Japan, turmoil and war in the Middle East, sovereign debt problems in Europe, and credit market downgrades in the United States. In this environment, the Canadian economy is still managing to do fairly well, yet risks abound. How will Canada fare in 2011? And particularly, what will this mean for Alberta’s economy?
Mr. Todd Hirsch received his BA Honors in Economics from the University of Alberta, and an MA in Economics from the University of Calgary. Since completing his education in 1993, he has held a series of economist positions at a variety of for-profit and public sector organizations, including the Canada West Foundation, the Canadian Pacific Railway, and the Bank of Canada.
Todd joined ATB Financial in May 2007 as Senior Economist where he provides economic information and intelligence to the various lines of business at ATB. He also tracks current developments in Alberta’s and North America's economy and delivers presentations to both internal and external audiences.
Todd appears regularly as an economic commentator on CBC radio, BNN, the Globe and Mail, and various local and national news programs. He also teaches a course in economics at the University of Calgary, serves as a mentor for the Economics Society of Calgary’s student mentorship program, and is the Chair the Board of Directors of the Calgary Arts Academy.
About ATB Financial:
ATB Financial is one of the largest financial institutions in the country, offering a full range of personal, retail, small business, and corporate financial services. It currently operates over 160 branches throughout Alberta, and has over $26 billion in assets under management. ATB Financial is a provincially-owned Crown Corporation in Alberta.
Biomechanics - How Athletes Improve Their Performance Through Physics
Most people are surprised when they see themselves on film performing a routine task for the first time. Lots of thoughts whiz through their heads about what they are watching. Some of these thoughts inevitably lead to the realization that the actions look weird and could be improved upon. That is the first step on the road to improving performance through video analysis. Once gross concerns have been corrected this video analysis can then be combined with biomechanical analysis to improve performance at levels that are harder to perceive. This presentation will illustrate some of the techniques utilized during the analysis process and show how basic engineering principles can be used to create a better athletic performance.
Mr. David Colley, BSc. (Eng), Dip is a part time instructor with the Kinesiology department at Red Deer College and Coach with the Women's Soccer program. David's undergraduate degree in Extractive Metallurgy combined nicely with his diploma in Kinesiology and Sports Sciences to allow him to work in the applied field of Biomechanics. David has 5 years experience of working with local athletes and instructing students at RDC. David has worked with the Alberta Sports Development Centre (Central) as part of their elite athlete scholarship program focusing on improving technique using film and biomechanical analysis.
