CITY OF MEDICINE HAT GAS UTILITY

The Gas Utility Department includes gas production, gas distribution, and gas marketing functions:

Gas Production is a financially self-sustaining business unit of the City of Medicine Hat Gas Utility. The sub-department exists to optimize the profitability and recovery of the City’s petroleum assets, to optimize the value of the City’s future investments in the Petroleum Industry, and to perform its functions without endangering the integrity of the environment, or the safety of its employees, or the public at large.

Gas Distribution is a business unit of the City of Medicine Hat, which distributes gas to customers within its franchise boundary, providing a benefit to the City in owning a gas distribution franchise, while developing financial independence and sustainability. The Gas Distribution sub-department also provides customer service, engineering, design, construction, replacement, expansion, operation and maintenance of distribution facilities in order to provide a safe and reliable system.

Gas Marketing is responsible for securing a fuel supply for Gas Distribution and the Electric Utility. The Group provides a visible method of assessing financial subsidies to Gas Utility customers and provides resources to both Gas Production and Gas Distribution to solve marketing, transportation, customer service, and alternative energy issues within the Gas Utility.
