Alberta is recognized globally as an energy technology champion. In this exciting luncheon presentation, Jim Carter, Chair of the Alberta Carbon Capture and Storage Development Council, will outline some of the details surrounding the development and implementation of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technology in Alberta. CCS represents a unique opportunity to balance future energy needs and continued economic growth, while making a significant contribution to meeting Alberta’s, Canada’s and the world’s GHG emission reduction targets. As past-president of Syncrude, Jim Carter understands the importance of technology in sustainable development. His leadership at Syncrude led to the introduction of technologies and processes that produced both incremental and revolutionary advances in productivity and environmental performance.
Mr. Carter recently led a multi-sector group which developed a roadmap for CCS in Alberta. With the announcement of a $2-billion CCS program, Alberta is again forging ahead to take a leading role in the development of CCS. Alberta has announced letters of intent to fund four commercial-scale CCS projects. Mr. Carter will present the business case for why CCS can make a meaningful impact on global GHG emissions.
