The second annual Rock for the Gallagher helped roll some more cash into the coffers of the Gallagher Library of Geology and Geophysics. Held this year on Oct. 23, the event's mission wasn't quite as critical as the inaugural one's was.

Last year the library was threatened with a serious possibility of permanent closure. With the help from the money we raised last year as well as other factors, the library remained open.
This year the library did not face a huge threat of closure — but funding for the library was at a minimum. With all the cuts going on, the library is the last thing on most people's mind — but it definitely was the first thing on students' minds.

Rock for the Gallagher attracted about 420 people to the Den, which is the campus bar and restaurant. We raised more than $2,340 for the library. Tickets sales brought in $2,100, another $43 came from donations, and a 50/50 draw raised $200 more.

The Rundle Group donated $80 in prizes, including a $50 Mountain Equipment Co-op gift certificate. The prizes were given out to the best dancers as well as the best costume.

Best costume prize went to Alyssa Barker, Melanie Myden, Tracy Hendsbee and Juli Neufeld, who were dressed as Josie and the Pussycats. Almost everyone who attended dressed as some sort of rock star.

A thank you to all those who supported this event and the Gallagher library.

Conference Coming
The annual Western Inter University Geology Conference will be held Jan. 6-9, this year in Saskatoon. Thirty geology and geophysics students are expected to be there for the conference.

This event always brings many stories of learning and fun, so stay tuned for a summary in future articles.

Adjustment Time

The Rundle Group of geology held a “post midterm” attitude adjustment on Nov. 19. Students and staff came out to have a good time and enjoyed some pizza and drinks.

Hockey Team Rocked
In sports news, the geoscience hockey team, the Rock Stars, made its way to the playoffs — but unfortunately lost 3-0 in the semi finals.

It's OK, guys. There is always next semester!
