A pioneering figure in the discovery and development of Canada ’s East Coast energy industry, an Ronald Charles Mader, P.Eng.
Ronald Charles Mader, P.Eng., an APEGGA member known for his work developing and protecting Nova Scotia ’s offshore oil and gas reserves, has lost a year-long battle with leukemia. Mr. Mader, of Dartmouth , N.S. , died at 49 years of age on Feb. 13 in Victoria General Hospital , Halifax .
After graduating in mechanical engineering from the Nova Scotia Technical College in 1976, Mr. Mader joined Gulf Oil in Calgary , where he spent the next 15 years in the petroleum industry.
“As a professional engineer Ron had many strengths,” says obituary material supplied to The PEGG, “but his passion for sound project management, both at work and at home, was seldom equaled.”
Mr. Mader returned to Halifax with his family in 1991. There, with the Canada-Nova Scotia Offshore Petroleum Board and later with Nova Scotia Resources Ltd., Mr. Mader made his mark in the offshore oil and gas industry. He subsequently became engineering and construction manager for Canadian Nexen’s Yemen facilities.
A devoted husband and father, Mr. Mader loved building houses, sailing boats (particularly his Trimaran) and restoring antique sports cars for the family to enjoy. “He touched the lives of many people with his strong sense of humour, honour and fair play,” says the supplied material.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Norma Linney, and their four children – Elizabeth, Charles, Theresa and Patricia. Predeceased by his father Gordon D. Mader, P.Eng., he is also survived by his mother, Lorina, and his brothers and sisters and their families — Susan, Douglas, John, Christine and Thomas.
