Manning Innovation Awards
Deadline: Dec. 1, 2006
the Ernest C. Manning Awards Foundation has been recognizing and encouraging innovation in Canada since 1982. By means of a nomination, Canadian resident citizens, who have demonstrated recent innovative talent in developing and successfully marketing a new concept, process or procedure, may be eligible for one of these awards: Principal Award ($100,000), Award of Distinction ($25,000), Innovation Awards (two at $10,000)
The Alberta Order of Excellence
Deadline: Mid-February
highest honour the Province of Alberta can bestow on a citizen
for outstanding Albertans who have made significant contributions that will stand the test of time

The Gerhard Herzberg Canada Gold Medal for Science and Engineering
Deadline: Beginning of May
the NSERC Herzberg Medal, the Council’s highest honour, recognizes research contributions characterized by both excellence and influence — two qualities that defined Dr. Herzberg’s illustrious career
Awarded annually to an individual who has demonstrated sustained excellence and influence in research, for a body of work conducted in Canada that has substantially advanced the natural sciences or engineering fields
Alberta Venture Business
Person of the Year
Deadline: End of July
the award is designed to identify and recognize individuals who embrace principled leadership, strategic thinking, the unceasing pursuit of excellence and balanced workplace values
the recipient will be a senior executive in Alberta who exemplifies exceptional leadership both inside and outside his/her business. The judging panel will consider a variety of qualities including but not limited to innovation, drive, fairness, passion and wisdom. The panel will seek individuals who demonstrate a commitment to their companies, their employees and their community. The award particularly recognizes accomplishments of the previous year
Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame
Deadline: Mid-September
the Canadian Science and Engineering Hall of Fame honours Canadians who have made outstanding contributions to society in developing science and engineering. It promotes role models who will help attract young Canadians to careers in science, engineering and technology
nominees should meet the following prioritized criteria
– they must have contributed in an exceptional way to the advancement of
science and engineering in Canada
– their work must have brought great benefits to society and their communities
as a whole
– they must possess leadership qualities that can serve as an inspiration
to young Canadians to pursue careers in science, engineering or technology

Alberta Venture Fast 50

the Fast 50 ranks companies that have seen the most significant increase in revenue, assets and net earnings over a three-year period

Order of the Bighorn
Deadline: End of November 2007
Runs every second year
a committee that includes Members of the Order of the Bighorn reviews recommendations to choose those who have made significant contributions to fish and wildlife conservation in Alberta
