FOR THE LOVE OF ROCKS
Rock hounds were out in full force at the annual APEGGA Rock & Fossil Clinics in Canmore and Edmonton, Oct. 18. More than 200 people visited each location and brought their prized samples to have them analyzed by geologists, university geology students and paleontologists.

The rooms were abuzz with conversations between the public and geologists who swapped stories about their showy collections. Their mutual love of Earth sciences was evident, and questions from visitors showed a keen interest in the work of geologists.

In Canmore the public also participated in hands-on activities, workshops and a presentation called the Beginner’s Guide to Rock Hounding, put on by Tom Sneddon, P.Geol., APEGGA Manager, Geoscience Affairs.

APEGGA extends sincere thanks to volunteers, the Canmore Museum and Geoscience Centre, and TELUS World of Science — Edmonton for their assistance.

The clinics celebrated Science and Technology Week.
