APEGA Name Change

APEGGA Drops a 'G'

Association Begins a New Era Under APEGA Name

Your eyes do not deceive you. Acting on the wishes of Council and the membership, the province has officially changed the iconic name and acronym of Alberta’s self-regulating organization for engineers and geoscientists.

In new registrations from now on, the terms Professional Geologist and Professional Geophysicist will be replaced with Professional Geoscientist.

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta is our new full name. The Engineering and Geoscience Professions Act is the new name of our legislation. And in new registrations the title P.Geo. replaces P.Geol. and P.Geoph., although professionals already granted the earlier titles are allowed to keep using them.

The Alberta Government has proclaimed the necessary legislative changes, which more closely align APEGA geoscience licensure with other regulators and with industry’s actual professional practice.
