THE POINT ACROSS |
In economic slowdowns, employers and individuals turn to non-essentials to reduce spending. If you’ve been putting professional development on the cutback list, however, perhaps you should reconsider.
“When members take a look at the presenters we’ve lined up for the 2009 conference, I think they’ll agree we’re offering great opportunities to grow and learn, no matter what’s happening in the marketplace,” says Nancy Toth, APEGGA Manager, Human Resources & Professional Development. “Professional development is always a good investment, perhaps even more so in difficult times.”
Under the theme Leading Change, the APEGGA Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting take place April 23-25 at the TELUS Convention Centre and the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in Calgary.
A question-and-answer feature highlights one of the speakers, performance coach Ken Larson.
Full details on the conference appear in a special insert.
If you are out of work, this is the time to upgrade your skills and make yourself more marketable, perhaps even preparing yourself for the job you’ve always wanted. If you’re being repositioned in your company or being asked to take on more responsibility, you may need to add to your skill set as you shift from your comfort zone.
“Successful employers are always improving opportunities for their staff. They realize that their people are their biggest asset and will lead them into better economic times,” says Ms. Toth.
The Annual Conference Professional Development program is affordable and relevant, with streams that explore leadership and performance, green energy,
management skills and much more. Early bird registration pricing in effect until March 15 and final registration deadline
is April 15.
