BIG NIGHT FOR APEGGA
The Hon. Ed Stelmach, Premier of Alberta, top left, poses with APEGGA President Gordon Williams, P.Geol. Mr. Stelmach is the first sitting premier in recent memory to speak at an APEGGA event.
The occasion was APEGGA’s Council dinner, Feb. 18 at the Royal Glenora Club. Also present were a number of MLAs and cabinet ministers.
At left, Dr. David Lynch, P.Eng., University of Alberta Dean of Engineering, thanks the APEGGA Education Foundation for a $500,000 donation. The university will match the money through the Alberta Government Access to the Future Fund, so the total endowment becomes $1 million. The University of Calgary is similarly leveraging $500,000 in endowment money it received from the foundation.
The two donations mean the foundation doubles its dollar support to $2 million for scholarships, bursaries and outreach in geoscience and engineering.
