B.C. and Ontario Streamline Geo Registration

The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. and the Association of Professional Geoscientists of Ontario have revamped their relationship. The two organizations recently implemented policy changes affecting registration in the two provinces for applications under the Canadian Council of Professional Geoscientists’ Inter-Association Mobility Agreement.

Under the new policies, professional geoscientists applying for registration under the mobility agreement generally need only submit an application form and fee, confirmation from their home association of membership in good standing, and, in the case of APEGBC, proof of Canadian citizenship or residency. APGO has no citizenship or residency requirements.

Applicants may also be required to pass a professional practice and ethics examination. A completed application will typically be processed within one week.

The new policies will affect both new and current applicants under the mobility agreement.

APEGBC and APGO have taken the step in recognition of the mobility inherent in geoscience practice and the demands of industry. By making the registration process easier and faster, individuals who transfer to B.C. or Ontario or who have projects in either province will find it simpler and quicker to comply with provincial licensure requirements.

Both associations believe that the development will be particularly appreciated in the oil and gas, and mining sectors.
