Regulation changes to align APEGGA’s legislation with two Canadian trade agreements go before members on Thursday, Nov. 26. The changes would give full mobility to Canadian professional engineers and geoscientists from other jurisdictions who seek licensure in Alberta, as well as to Canadian members in training.
To allow members to vote on the amendments to the General Regulation of the Engineering, Geological and Geophysical Professions Act, Council is holding a special meeting in the conference centres in APEGGA’s Edmonton and Calgary offices. The two venues will be linked through videoconferencing technology, and the meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. A quorum of 60 members is needed for a vote to be valid.
“It’s very important that a special meeting be called to consider this important legislation, which will make transfers in Canada virtually automatic,” said Executive Director & Registrar Neil Windsor, P.Eng. “We have to be compliant with these agreements, but we need approval of members before that can happen.”
If approved, the changes will make APEGGA compliant with practices prescribed in the national Agreement on Internal Trade (AIT) and the Trade, Investment and Labour Mobility Agreement (TILMA) between Alberta and B.C. The Association was to have been compliant by Aug. 1, 2009.
An official notice of the meeting, including a description of the actual regulation changes, appears on Page 7 of this month’s PEGG.
